    At Trinity St Mary’s CofE Primary School, we want children to develop a curiosity and fascination with the world around them and understand their place within it. Through engaging and meaningful geography lessons, children explore different countries, cultures, environments and communities while developing a deeper understanding of both the natural and human world.

    At TSM, geography helps children to become thoughtful, informed and responsible global citizens. We encourage children to ask questions, investigate the world around them and develop a growing awareness of environmental issues and sustainability.

    Children are particularly passionate about caring for the environment and this is reflected throughout our curriculum, including eco-focused learning linked closely to science and wider school initiatives.

    Through our engaging geography curriculum, children:

    • learn about the local area, the UK and countries around the world,
    • explore different cultures, communities and environments,
    • develop map-reading and fieldwork skills,
    • investigate environmental and sustainability issues,
    • and build confidence in understanding how people and places are connected.

    We use a carefully planned and progressive curriculum that helps children build their geographical knowledge and skills year by year. Lessons are enriched through the use of:

    • atlases, globes and maps,
    • digital resources,
    • high-quality texts,
    • discussion and enquiry,
    • and opportunities for collaborative and independent learning.

    Children are encouraged to think critically, ask thoughtful questions and communicate their ideas confidently through discussion, research and written work.

    At TSM, we believe geography helps children develop curiosity, empathy and a deeper understanding of the diverse and interconnected world we live in, preparing them to become responsible and compassionate citizens of the future.
