    Spanish

“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.”
    — Nelson Mandela

At Trinity St Mary’s CofE Primary School, we want children to become confident, curious and open-minded global citizens who are prepared for the wider world and the opportunities of the future.

Learning a modern foreign language helps children develop confidence, communication skills and a deeper understanding of different cultures and communities. At TSM, we aim to inspire a genuine enjoyment of language learning while encouraging children to appreciate and celebrate diversity within our global society.

Children learn Spanish through engaging and interactive lessons that develop their skills in:

    • listening,
    • speaking,
    • reading,
    • and writing.

Through songs, games, conversations, storytelling and practical activities, children build confidence in communicating in another language while developing curiosity and enthusiasm for learning about the wider world.

At TSM, we use the Language Angels scheme of work to support the teaching of Spanish and provide a carefully planned and progressive curriculum that builds children’s language knowledge and confidence year by year.

    Learning Spanish also helps children:

    • develop communication and oracy skills,
    • strengthen memory and problem-solving,
    • build confidence when speaking,
    • and gain a greater understanding of different cultures, traditions and identities.

We want children to leave TSM with a positive attitude towards languages and the confidence to continue their language-learning journey as they move on to secondary school and beyond.
