    Computing & Technology

At Trinity St Mary’s CofE Primary School, we recognise that technology plays an important role in children’s learning and in everyday life. We aim to equip children with the knowledge, confidence and skills needed to use technology safely, creatively and responsibly both now and in the future.

Through our computing curriculum, children are encouraged to become curious, confident and independent learners who can explore, create, problem-solve and communicate using a wide range of digital tools and technologies.

At TSM, children have access to high-quality technology and engaging learning experiences that help them develop important skills in:

    • computer science,
    • digital literacy,
    • programming and coding,
    • online communication,
    • creativity and problem-solving,
    • and online safety.

We provide a broad and progressive curriculum that builds children’s knowledge and confidence year by year, ensuring learning develops in a structured and meaningful way as they move through the school.

Children enjoy using a variety of technology and resources including:

    • Chromebooks and iPads,
    • programmable robots such as BeeBots,
    • data loggers,
    • coding programmes including Scratch and Logo,
    • GarageBand and music production software,
    • green screen technology,
    • and a range of creative digital tools.

Our computing lessons are designed to be practical, engaging and inclusive, allowing all children to develop skills at their own pace while encouraging creativity, resilience and collaboration.

Technology is also used creatively across the wider curriculum, particularly within Art and Design, where children use digital tools and software to explore photography, animation, graphic design and creative media projects. Children are encouraged to combine creativity with technology to express ideas, develop artistic skills and produce digital artwork in exciting and innovative ways.

Children also use green screen technology to create their own films, presentations and storytelling projects using a variety of digital backgrounds and special effects. These experiences help children develop creativity, communication skills, confidence and teamwork while bringing their learning to life in engaging and imaginative ways.

As part of our commitment to providing exciting real-world learning experiences, children also have opportunities to visit Apple Headquarters at Battersea Power Station. During these sessions, children explore how technology products are designed and developed while taking part in creative workshops where they can design their own digital emojis, animations and music projects. Using programmes such as GarageBand, children are able to create and edit their own songs and soundtracks, helping to develop creativity, confidence and digital skills in meaningful and inspiring ways.

These enriching experiences inspire curiosity, innovation and an understanding of how technology can be used creatively across different industries and future careers.

    Online Safety

Keeping children safe online is a key priority at TSM. Alongside our computing curriculum, children take part in dedicated online safety lessons from Reception to Year 6 to help them learn how to use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly.

    Children learn about:

    • staying safe online,
    • protecting personal information,
    • respectful online behaviour,
    • healthy screen use,
    • and knowing how to seek help if something online makes them feel worried or unsafe.

We work closely with families to help children become safe, confident and responsible digital citizens who are prepared for the modern world.
