    Science

At Trinity St Mary’s CofE Primary School, we want children to develop a curiosity and excitement about the world around them through inspiring and hands-on science learning.

We believe science helps children make sense of the world and encourages them to question, explore, investigate and discover. Through engaging lessons and practical experiences, children develop the confidence to think scientifically and understand how science continues to shape our everyday lives and future world.

At TSM, we provide a rich, broad and exciting science curriculum that supports and challenges all learners while encouraging curiosity, creativity and independence.

    Children are encouraged to:

    • ask questions and investigate ideas,
    • explore and explain natural phenomena,
    • develop scientific knowledge and vocabulary,
    • carry out practical experiments,
    • and work collaboratively to solve problems and share discoveries.

Scientific skills and knowledge begin developing in Early Years and Key Stage 1 and continue to build progressively throughout the school, helping children grow in confidence and understanding as young scientists.

Where possible, science learning is linked across the wider curriculum through our creative approach to teaching, helping children make meaningful connections between subjects and apply their learning in real-life contexts.

Children also benefit from wider opportunities to explore science through enrichment activities, clubs, themed events and practical investigations that help bring learning to life and inspire a lifelong interest in science and discovery.

At TSM, we aim for every child to leave our school with curiosity, confidence and a strong understanding of the important role science plays in our world and future.
