Worship & Spirtuality
At Trinity St Mary’s, Collective Worship is at the heart of our school community. It is a special time each day when children and staff come together to reflect, pray, sing, celebrate and grow in faith and understanding.

Our worship reflects the Christian vision and values of our school while warmly welcoming children and families of all faiths and backgrounds. We aim to create a calm, inclusive and inspiring environment where every child feels valued and encouraged to reflect on life, faith, kindness and the world around them.
A Special Time Together
Collective Worship provides children with opportunities to:
- reflect quietly and thoughtfully
- explore Christian values and teachings
- develop spirituality and compassion
- celebrate achievements and acts of kindness
- pray, sing and worship together
- build a sense of community and belonging
Each worship begins with a familiar liturgy which helps create a sense of reverence and shared purpose across the school.
A child is chosen to light the candle, marking the beginning of our special “Holy Time” together.
The worship leader says:
“Christ, the light of the world, is here.”
The children respond:
“Lord Jesus shine on us.”
This shared moment helps children pause from the busyness of the day and enter a calm space for reflection and worship.
Our Weekly Collective Worship
Every morning, the whole school gathers for Collective Worship. Each day has a different focus to help children experience worship in a variety of meaningful ways.
Monday – Singing and Reflection
Children begin the week by coming together to sing hymns and uplifting songs. Music plays an important role in helping children express joy, gratitude and reflection while strengthening our sense of community.
Tuesday – Celebration and Merit Worship
We celebrate children’s achievements, effort and positive choices through our Merit Worship. Pupils are recognised for demonstrating our school values, showing kindness, perseverance or inspiring others.
This is a joyful opportunity for the school community to encourage and celebrate one another.
Wednesday – Values Worship
Children reflect on the school value for the half-term and consider how they can live out that value in their everyday lives.
Themes such as compassion, courage, friendship, forgiveness and respect help children develop strong moral foundations and thoughtful character.
Thursday – Church Worship
Our Thursday worship takes place in church and is led by Father Jonathan. This special service includes:
- Bible readings led by pupils
- discussions about the meaning of scripture
- child-written prayers
- opportunities for reflection and worship
Children enjoy taking an active role and developing confidence in leading worship.
Friday – Deep Thinking and Reflection
On Fridays, children complete “Deep Thinker” reflections linked to either the previous day’s church worship or the values worship. These activities encourage pupils to think deeply about faith, values and how Christian teachings can connect to their own lives and experiences.
Following the Church Calendar
Our Collective Worship themes are carefully planned throughout the year and linked to the Church calendar and Bible teachings.
Themes include:
- People Jesus Met
- Advent and Christmas
- The Words of Jesus
- Holy Week and Easter
- The Parables of Jesus
- The Miracles of Jesus
These themes help children build a growing understanding of Christian faith, teachings and traditions in an engaging and age-appropriate way.
Developing Spirituality and Belonging
Collective Worship at Trinity St Mary’s nurtures children spiritually, emotionally and socially. It helps them develop empathy, confidence, respect and a sense of belonging within a caring Christian community.
Through prayer, reflection and shared experiences, children are encouraged to become thoughtful, compassionate individuals who understand the importance of kindness, service and living well with others.
