Nurturing Minds, Filling Hearts, Flourishing Together

At Trinity St Mary’s CofE Primary School, we value the important partnership between home and school in supporting children’s learning and development. We believe homework should reinforce learning, build confidence and encourage children to develop independence and positive learning habits beyond the classroom.

Alongside daily reading, spelling and timetable practice, families have the opportunity to opt in for additional weekly homework activities designed to support and extend classroom learning in a positive and manageable way.

We also believe that children benefit from having time to relax, enjoy family life and take part in hobbies, clubs and wider interests. Parents and carers know their children best and can decide whether additional optional homework is beneficial for their child and family routine.

Two pieces of homework are linked to their learning in school. This may be English, grammar, maths or work related to foundation subjects being studied.

In SATs year groups, homework will be compulsory for all children.

If parents or carers would like their child to receive the optional homework activities, they should speak to their child’s class teacher.

We encourage children to complete and return homework on time so that teachers can provide feedback and prepare the next activities. Children who need support with homework are encouraged to speak to their teacher before the hand-in date.

Reading remains a key priority across the school and we ask families to support children by regularly reading at home and completing reading journals where appropriate. We want every child at TSM to leave us as a confident reader, writer and learner.

We are grateful for the continued support of our families in helping children develop positive attitudes towards learning, responsibility and independence.
