    Welcome to Year 6

A very warm welcome to Year 6!

Year 6 is an exciting and important stage in your child’s journey through primary school. As the children prepare for the transition to secondary school, we aim to make this final year at TSM both rewarding and memorable, filled with opportunities for growth, responsibility and success.

At TSM, we believe every child should feel known, valued and inspired to flourish. In Year 6, children are encouraged to become confident, independent and resilient learners while continuing to develop kindness, leadership and teamwork within our nurturing school community.

Alongside preparing children academically for the next stage of their education, we place great importance on supporting their wellbeing, confidence and personal development. We want children to leave TSM feeling proud of their achievements, ready for new challenges and excited about the future.

    Homework

Homework is set every Monday and should be returned the following Monday.

    Activities may include:

    • spellings,
    • grammar tasks,
    • maths activities,
    • and learning linked to classroom topics.

Homework is designed to reinforce learning, encourage independence and help children develop positive study habits in preparation for secondary school.

    Spellings

Children receive 14 spellings each week linked to the National Curriculum expectations.

    We encourage children to:

    • practise regularly at home,
    • use spellings within sentences,
    • and explore the meanings of unfamiliar vocabulary.

Spelling tests take place every Monday.

    Reading

Reading remains an important part of children’s learning and development in Year 6.

Children are encouraged to read at least four times each week and record this in their reading records. Reading aloud and discussing texts with an adult helps develop fluency, comprehension, confidence and a deeper enjoyment of reading.

    PE

PE lessons take place on Tuesday afternoons.

Please ensure children come to school with their full PE kit each week, including:

    • house-coloured T-shirt,
    • blue shorts or dark tracksuit bottoms,
    • and suitable trainers.

Physical activity continues to play an important role in children’s wellbeing, teamwork and confidence.

    Emanuel School Enrichment

On Friday afternoons, children attend Emanuel School where they take part in a variety of exciting enrichment opportunities, including activities such as Art and Drama. These experiences help broaden children’s interests, build confidence and support their transition to secondary education.

    Working Together

At TSM, we value strong partnerships between home and school and believe children achieve their best when families and staff work closely together.

If you ever have any questions, concerns or would like to discuss your child’s learning or wellbeing, please do not hesitate to contact me before or after school or via Class Dojo.

We are looking forward to a fantastic year together filled with learning, growth, achievement and special memories as the children complete their journey at TSM.

    Best wishes,
    Miss Brewster
