A very warm welcome to Attenborough Class!
We are excited to begin another fantastic year of learning, growth and discovery together. In our mixed Year 3 and Year 4 class, children are encouraged to develop confidence, independence and resilience as they continue their journey through Lower Key Stage 2.
At TSM, we believe every child should feel known, valued and inspired to flourish. Our classroom is a nurturing and engaging environment where children are supported to challenge themselves, celebrate their achievements and develop a love of learning.
Being part of a mixed-age class provides wonderful opportunities for collaboration, leadership and peer support, helping children learn from one another while growing in confidence and maturity.
Reading is a key part of children’s learning and development and your support at home makes a huge difference to their progress and confidence.
Children are encouraged to read daily with an adult and have their reading records signed regularly. Reading books are usually changed on Mondays and Thursdays.
Through regular reading, children develop fluency, comprehension, vocabulary and a lifelong enjoyment of books.
Spellings are sent home every Tuesday and are linked to the National Curriculum spelling patterns for Years 3 and 4. Children will be tested on these spellings the following Tuesday.
Regular spelling practice at home helps children build confidence and accuracy in their writing.
Developing quick recall of timetables is an important part of maths learning in Lower Key Stage 2.
By the end of Year 3, children are expected to know their 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables confidently.
By the end of Year 4, children should know all multiplication facts up to 12 × 12 and will complete the national Multiplication Tables Check.
Children complete regular timetable practice in school to help build fluency, confidence and speed, and we greatly appreciate your support with practising at home.
Homework is set every Tuesday and should be returned the following Tuesday.
Tasks may include:
Homework is designed to reinforce learning, encourage independence and help children develop positive study habits.
PE lessons take place on Thursday mornings.
Children should have a full PE kit in school each week, including:
Year 3 children also attend swimming lessons every Wednesday. Children will need their swimming kit and a packed lunch on these days.
At TSM, we value the strong partnership between home and school and believe children thrive when families and staff work together closely.
If you ever have any questions, concerns or would like to discuss your child’s learning or wellbeing, please do not hesitate to speak to me before or after school or contact me via Class Dojo.
We are looking forward to a wonderful year together in Attenborough Class!
Kind regards,
Miss Keys
