During Autumn 1, Year 3 and 4 pupils explored the imaginative art movement Surrealism, inspired by the work of Salvador Dalí and linked to our English text Leon and the Place Between. Children investigated how artists blend reality and fantasy to create dream-like scenes, developing their skills in sketching, composition, symbolic design, and colour blending.
Through guided visualisation, creative drawing tasks, and hands-on practice with pastels, paint, collage, and mixed media, our children designed and produced their own surreal fantasy landscapes. They learnt how to layer materials, create mood through colour, and experiment with unusual scale and perspective.
