PSHE and RSE

Nurturing Minds, Filling Hearts, Flourishing Together
PSHE & Relationships Education

At Trinity St Mary’s CofE Primary School, we are committed to supporting children’s personal, social, emotional and mental wellbeing so they can grow into confident, respectful and responsible individuals.

Through our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) curriculum and collective worship, children are encouraged to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to build healthy relationships, manage emotions, stay safe and make positive choices both now and in the future.

Our PSHE curriculum reflects our Christian vision and values of Kindness, Unity and Courage, helping children to celebrate diversity, value themselves and others, and contribute positively to their community and the wider world.

At TSM, we place a strong emphasis on wellbeing and growth mindset, encouraging children to believe in themselves, embrace challenges and understand that learning takes time, effort and perseverance. We help children to develop resilience, confidence and positive attitudes towards learning by teaching them that mistakes are an important part of growth and success.

Children are encouraged to:

  • recognise and manage their emotions,
  • build positive relationships,
  • develop resilience and self-confidence,
  • challenge themselves and persevere,
  • show empathy and respect for others,
  • take care of their physical and mental wellbeing,
  • and understand the importance of kindness, inclusion and belonging.
Relationships, Health & Sex Education (RHSE)

In line with the statutory Relationships Education and Health Education curriculum, children learn about:

  • healthy and respectful relationships,
  • friendships and family relationships,
  • emotional wellbeing and mental health,
  • staying safe online,
  • physical health and healthy lifestyles,
  • growing up and change,
  • and understanding and respecting differences.

At TSM, lessons are always taught in an age-appropriate, sensitive and inclusive way within a safe and supportive environment where children feel comfortable asking questions and sharing ideas respectfully.

We value the important partnership between home and school and work closely with families to ensure parents and carers are informed about the curriculum and resources used within lessons.

Jigsaw PSHE Programme

At TSM, we use the Jigsaw programme to support the teaching of PSHE and RHSE across the school. Jigsaw is a whole-school approach that combines:

  • PSHE,
  • emotional literacy,
  • mindfulness,
  • wellbeing,
  • social skills,
  • spiritual development,
  • and growth mindset.

Through Jigsaw, children develop confidence, resilience, empathy and self-awareness while learning how to manage relationships and emotions positively.

Each half-term, the whole school explores a shared theme, helping to create a strong sense of community and shared learning across TSM.

The six Jigsaw themes are:

  1. Being Me in My World
  2. Celebrating Difference
  3. Dreams and Goals
  4. Healthy Me
  5. Relationships
  6. Changing Me

At TSM, we believe PSHE plays a vital role in helping children feel safe, valued and prepared for life in modern Britain. We aim to nurture children who are confident in themselves, respectful towards others and equipped with the skills needed to flourish both academically and personally.
