At Trinity St Mary’s CofE Primary School, safeguarding children online is an important part of keeping our pupils safe, happy and supported both in school and beyond.
Technology plays a valuable role in children’s learning, communication and development. We are committed to helping children use technology safely, responsibly and confidently while developing the knowledge and skills they need to navigate the online world positively.
Through our curriculum, collective worship, pastoral support and everyday teaching, children learn about:
- staying safe online,
- respectful and responsible behaviour,
- protecting personal information,
- healthy screen use,
- and knowing how to seek help if something online makes them feel worried or unsafe.
We also work closely with families to promote safe and age-appropriate use of technology and social media. Many social media platforms, including WhatsApp, TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook, have a minimum age requirement of 13 years old. We strongly encourage parents and carers to follow these age restrictions and regularly monitor children’s online activity to help keep them safe.
Online safety education is taught in an age-appropriate way and is closely linked to our wider safeguarding, wellbeing and PSHE curriculum. In line with current UK safeguarding guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSiE), all staff receive regular online safety training and safeguarding updates to help protect children from online risks, including cyberbullying, inappropriate content and online exploitation.
At TSM, we believe that supporting children to become safe, respectful and responsible digital citizens is an important part of preparing them for the future.
