Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check

In June, children in Year 4 take part in the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC), a short online assessment designed to assess how fluently children can recall their times tables up to 12 × 12. Secure knowledge of multiplication facts is an important foundation for future learning in mathematics and helps children develop confidence and speed in their calculations.

The check consists of 25 multiplication questions completed on a computer or tablet, with children given 6 seconds to answer each question. The assessment is designed to be low-pressure and usually takes less than five minutes to complete.

At Trinity St Mary's CE, we prepare children through engaging maths lessons, regular times tables practice and a supportive learning environment that builds confidence as well as fluency. There is no pass mark for the check; the results simply help teachers identify whether any additional support may be beneficial. Parents can support at home by practising times tables regularly in fun and encouraging ways.
