Welcome to Year 4! We are going to work very hard, always give our best, and of course, have lots of fun along the way. Let’s get started!
Spellings: Spellings are sent out on Mondays, based on the National Curriculum spellings patterns for Year 4. Children are then tested on the following Monday. I would appreciate it if you could support your child in learning their words and making sure they are writing each word in a sentence in their purple spelling book.
Times tables: By the end of Year 4 all children should know their tables and related division facts up to 12x12. Times tables are tested every Monday. Please give your child the support that they need to succeed. Their times table knowledge is fundamental for success in Mathematics. At the end of the year all Year 4 pupils, in England, are going to be tested on their tables - I want us to be proud of our results. We will be doing lots of practice in class but your child needs your support.
Reading: Children are expected to read with an adult every night and have parent comments written in their reading record book. Their reading books will be changed when finished and need to be in every day.
Violin lessons: Your child will be learning the violin this year! The whole class lessons will take place every Monday. Your child will be loaned a school violin. I expect them to practice regularly at home and to be ready for each Monday session. Please make sure your child takes care of the violin and remembers to bring it in every Monday. Please look out for our termly whole school performances that parents can attend as well.
P.E: Our PE lessons are on a Thursday morning; please ensure your child has a full PE kit which consists of house coloured top, blue shorts or black leggings/tracksuit and trainers.
Home learning grids: These will be given to all children at the start of term. Home learning should be brought in on a Thursday each week. I look forward to seeing what your child produces.
