Welcome to Cuba Class!

In Cuba Class (Reception), we feel privileged to be able to work with children at the start of their learning journey. We believe our children should be taught in a nurturing and stimulating environment where the children will develop a love for learning and enhance their confidence. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, which incorporates different areas of learning: Communication and Language Development; Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Literacy Development; Mathematics Development; Understanding the World; Expressive Arts and design and Physical Development. Through the EYFS curriculum we encourage the children to independently explore, create, discover, take risks and learn through play.

The topics we will be covering this year include; Traditional Tales, Space, Space, People Who Help Us, Mini-Beasts, Country (South America) and Summer Fun.

PE takes place on a Thursday morning. You can leave your PE kits at school and we will send them home at the end of each term. P.E. kits should include suitable foot wear (trainers or plimsolls), t-shirts, (in their house colours) and shorts or track suit bottoms.

If you are unable to take part in PE, you must have a signed note from home, stating the reasons why.

Homework consists of a home learning grid which changes termly. Please choose at least one activity each week and bring it to school on a Thursday. You may choose from any column, but please make sure you do a variety and not all just from one column. Keep track of which activities you have done by colouring in the appropriate square. Each week a different piece of homework will be chosen to receive a merit on a Friday.

Books will be changed once a week but please have book bags every day. Please try and read every night, if there are three signatures in your reading record per week you will get a Dojo point (which works towards a prize!).

We visit the school library every week so children can pick their own library books to take home. We also visit the local library in Balham once a term.

We go on nature walks to Wandsworth Common every half term.

If you have any questions or concerns please speak to me.
